Daniel
7:24
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy
people and upon the holy city,
Daniel 9:1, 2 tells us that Daniel knew that the current exile of the Jews from the
land of Israel would last 70 years according to the word of Jeremiah
29:10
Daniel 9:1, 2
1 In the first year of Darius
the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the
Chaldeans;
2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years,
whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he wouldaccomplish seventy
years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
Jeremiah 29:10
10 For thus saith the Lord, That after
seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward
you, in causing you to return to this place.
What Daniel did not know is that
another 70 'weeks of years'
would have to take place before empires of the world that he was shown in Daniel 2, Daniel 7,
Daniel 8 gave way to the everlasting Kingdom of God
Christ would established on the earth at His second coming. The
word 'week' is a Jewish length
of time meaning 7 years much like the english word 'decade' means 10 years. Seventy weeks (70 x 7yrs) would equal 490 years.
Daniel is told 490 years must run their course concerning the city of Jerusalem, the
temple, the Jewish people until all the stated goals listed below from Daniel 9:24 can be fulfilled and the Kingdom
of God to be fully established on the earth.

To finish the transgression
is to fulfill the judgments that God that are written in the law of Moses on them. Not
only for past transgressions but for current and future. Daniel knew this and asked God to
be merciful.
Daniel 9:3-19
3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and
supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great
and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that
keep his commandments;
5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled,
even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our
kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this
day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that
are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them,
because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
8 O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our
fathers, because we have sinned against thee.
9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against
him;
10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set
before us by his servants the prophets.
11 Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey
thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law
of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.
12 And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that
judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done
as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not
our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand
thy truth.
14 Therefore hath the Lord watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the Lord our
God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
15 And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt
with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have
done wickedly.
16 O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy
fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and
for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all
that are about us.
17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and
cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.
18 O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and
the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee
for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.
19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O
my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
The blessings and curses are
outlined in Deuteronomy 28 and Leviticus 26 (see timeframe 2 - intro
for review). Much has been
fulfilled to date but the Jews still have to meet the requirements of Deuteronomy 30.
Deuteronomy 30:1-3
1 And it shall come to pass, when all these
things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and
thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven
thee,
2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I
command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and
will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered
thee.
These verses require a national repentance and a return to obey all
the Jehovah God has written in the law of Moses. When they do this and they will (see time
frame 2) then all the blessings of the law can be upon
them and this is the beginning of the ending of transgressions. However, only the return
of Christ and their acceptance of Him as their Messiah can end the transgressions as
stated in Zechariah 13:1-6.
Zechariah 13:1-6
1 In that day there shall be a fountain
opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for
uncleanness.
2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will cut off the
names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will
cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.
3 And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his
mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in
the name of the Lord: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him
through when he prophesieth.
4 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of
his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive:
5 But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle
from my youth.
6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer,
Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
To make an end of sins
Israel must not only experience
repentance and be made clean of their sins but must receive a new heart. This is
comparable to the christian experience of turning to Christ to be saved through repentance
and receiveing a new nature walking in newness of life by Christ's resurrection having the
heart is ruled by the Holy Spirit. Israel will begin a national repentance before the rapture (see time
frame 2) but not receive a new heart till they accept Christ as ther Messiah - Ezekiel 36:24-38
Ezekiel 36:24-38
24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all
countries, and will bring you into your own land.
25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your
filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will
take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall
keep my judgments, and do them.
To make reconciliation
for inquity
God had always showed to
Israel through the temple and priestly system that blood had to be shed as an atonement or
sacrifice for sins. Those offerings always looked forward to the one supreme sacrifice of
God's son on Calvary. God throgh the cross of Crist was reconciling a lost world back to
Himself (Ephesians 2:2-16, Colossians 1:19, 20, 2 Corinthians
5:17-21).
Ephesians 2: 2-16
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of
this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of
wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are
saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ
Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness
toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of
God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath
before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called
Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel,
and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of
Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of
partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in
ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the
enmity thereby:
Colossians 1:19,20
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness
dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things
unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath
given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their
trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray
you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.
To
bring in everlasting righteousness
Everlasting righteousness is the
righteousness that only the eternal God has. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their
personal saviour they obtain the gift of eternal life which has in itself the everlasting
righteousness of God. The fullness of this gift will be manifested when we are made
perfect body, soul and spirit at His coming again.
Romans 3:1-31
1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without
effect?
4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou
mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God
unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
6 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
7 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I
also judged as a sinner?
8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us
do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews
and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none
that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison
of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the
law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for
by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the
law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all
them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his
righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the
justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of
faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles
also:
30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision
through
faith.
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
To seal up the vision and the
prophecy
God gave the O.T. prophets
prophecy and visions of both the first coming and the second coming of Christ along with
how God will judge Israel and the gentile nations. When these 70 weeks (490 years) of Daniel
9:24 finish then all that the prophets wrote concerning the
end of the age will be fulfilled. This is confrimed in Revelations
10:1-7 during the time when the seventh seal is opened
whenChrist returns.
Revelations 10:1-7
1 And I saw another mighty angel come down
from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it
were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and
his left foot on the earth,
3 And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven
thunders uttered their voices.
4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard
a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered,
and write them not.
5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to
heaven,
6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that
therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things
which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the
mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
To
anoint the Most Holy
Christ when He came to earth the
first time was rejected by the Jewish religious and political leaders as King and so never
was publically honored. However, at His second coming He will be anointed and honored as
King of Kings and Lord of Lords and sit upon His throne in Jerusalem with His twelve
deciples (Matt 19:28-30).
MATT 19:28-30
28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye
which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of
his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother,
or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and
shall inherit everlasting life.
30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
