Introduction to understanding the 6 seals
Before one studies the 6 seals of Rev 6 and the activity from heaven by Christ and the raptured saints during the 3 1/2 Christian tribulation period one should review Rev chapters 1-5 to get the big picture.
See Revelations for full study
In the study
of Revelations chapters Rev 4 and 5 we covered events from heaven's point of view immediately
following the rapture. There we were introduced to
the raptured church in heaven divided into groups of numerous saints symbolized by the 24 elders, the 4
Living ones. In Rev 6 we another group of saints symbolized by the 4 horsemen.
When we get to heaven after the rapture we will not
see 24 elders, 4 living ones or 4 horsemen but we will see and experience exactly what John is telling us
will happen. The full meaning of what John saw can only be interpreted by the rules and
wisdom God has already given us throughout His Holy Word which are consistent no matter
where or when they are applied. Below is a picture of what is ahppening in Rev 6 around the throne after the rapture.
(Father sits on the throne)
Rev 6 tells the story of how the raptured Christians in their resurrected bodies as the
new powers of the air with Christ exercise these mighty changes and position to great
advantage of Satna and his fallen angels. Satan and his angels are now on the earth and
now no longer the dark powers of the air (see page 1). The first six seals of the book are opened in heaven during the Great 3 1/2 year Christian
Tribulation that is going on earth (page 1, page 2). During this same time there is great
activity in heaven as the raptured Christians (4 horsemen) carry out their orders given to them by the 4 Living ones (Christian
administrators) who in turn receive
their orders from Christ as He opens the seals. The action of the 4 horsemen carrying out their orders and the forces of nature seemingly out
of control (yet God knows exactly
what He is doing) greatly hinders the persecution of Antichrist on those after the rapture on earth that become Christians. The result of
the 6 seals produces a mighty number of tribulation martyrs and saints to end the church
age and the first resurrection (see Revelations chart above).
Rev 6:1-17
1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one
of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying,
Come and see.
2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was
given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat
thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was
given unto him a great sword.
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast
say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair
of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny,
and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell
followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to
kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were
slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on
the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they
should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren,
that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake;
and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely
figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and
island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief
captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the
dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that
sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
1 And I saw when the Lamb
opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four
beasts saying, Come and see.
Christ opens the 1st seal accompanied
by what sounded like thunder. Thunder
symbolizes the coming storm - the approaching judgment on all nations known as Day of the Lord -
timeframe 5 when 7th seal is
opened (see charts above and rapture generation chart below).

The first 6 seals opened during the 3 1/2
Christian tribulation period is still a time of grace mixed with judgment. One of the
living ones (one of the raptured
Christians from the group symbolized by the 4 living ones- see above) told John to come and see - that is come and
watch what happens when the seals are opened.

|
Habakkuk 3:7-13 |
White - Work of righteousness |
Habakkuk 3:7-13 (see first column) saw the full effect of the 6 seals that are opened in heaven and their effect on earth and nature. He mentions God's horsemen and chariots going forth for the salvation of His people in a time when the nature was going crazy. Habakkuk said that these judgments were made quite naked (clear) in the Word of God which He calls God's bow that came through the 12 tribes - that is the Old Testament prophets. The first seal then is raptured Christians going forth in mighty strength as horses go into battle without fear. The color white denotes work of righteousness. As overcomers (wearing a crown) they preach the gospel over the whole earth from heaven and conquering souls with the Word of God. They are more than conquerers because they have conquered and now conquering others |
Revelations
14:6-10 |
Earth's View |
Rev 12. 13 and 14 (see first column) show earth's view during the 3 1/2 year great tribulation (see page 1, page 2) and what happens to those left behind after the rapture. Rev 14:6-10 tells us what the people on the earth see when the 1st seal is opened in heaven. They will see the raptured Christians as messengers preaching the gospel from the air going forth as conquerors and to conquer souls for Christ. They are warning those who receive the mark of the beast in their forehead or hand or worship the beast they will drink the full wrath of God in the Day of the Lord when also Babylon that great city will be destroyed (see fall of Babylon) and to get out now! |
red horse | Rev 6:4 |
|
Zechariah 1:8-10, 8:1-8 tells of God's
angels carrying out a particular work for him among the Gentile nations and they are
divided into groups symbolized by horses or chariots of horses. |
Red - Warfare with shedding of blood |
Red horse another group of raptured Christians who carry out those orders and take peace from the earth. This is not a judgment on all nations as in the Day of the Lord that follows the 6 seals (see chart above) but to hinder and slow down Antichrist's relentless persecution of the church left behind after the rapture so as many tribulation souls can be won to Christ as possible. God has many times intervened in the past using His angelic host to help Israel and so it is not surpassing to see the raptured Church as God's army in heaven performing the same function for the church left behind. An excellent parallel passage is found in Zechariah 1 (see 1st column on left) where the red, white and speckled horses go forth from heaven symbolizing the work and nature of God's angels to bring judgment to the Gentile nations. See also page 1 where the earth opens up and swallows the flood of persecution upon the tribulation Christians by the beast. This is symbolic in telling what the effects of the four(4) horsemen and the sixth seal are having on earth and nature that helps the tribulation church to last 3 1/2 years. |

Rev
6:5,6 5 And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. |
|
The activity of the black horse fulfills Jesus words quoted above
table from Matt 24:7-14 that
cover the Christian tribulation period Mt 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilence's, and earthquakes, in divers places. |
Black - World famine is a result of wars of 2nd horsemen. Black is associated with great sorrow, weakness, sickness. | It is here signified how little grain there was, for the word used here is a unit of measure for dry things, about an eighth of a bushel, which was a typical daily ration given to servants. Food supply is critical as well as oil and wine used for medicinal purposes. |
|
Rev 6:7-8 7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. 8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. |
|
Pale - life is or has gone out of the body. War, famine, pestilence are resulting in a heavy toll. An additional measure of the same will cover 1/4 of the earth. Most likely - the empire of Antichrist. | Death as opposed to hell would be those that die but are not sentenced to hell at this time. For whatever reason will be judged at the great white throne (Rev 20:11-13) according to their works. Hell are those that outwardly rejected the opportunity to be saved sentencing themselves to hell. Many of these not only rejecting the gospel preached by the 1st horsemen but instead receiving the mark of the beast. (see page 2) |
Heaven's view |
Rev 6:9-11 |
|
Acts 2:16-21 |
The large number of tribulation martyrs souls arriving in heaven is a result of the work of the first 4 seals (4 horsemen). The gospel preached into all the world by the raptured saints; the wars, famines and earthquakes (see 6th seal) all slow down Antichrist and the false prophet from their relentless persecution of the tribulation saints. This is all summed up in Rev 12 where the woman (church left behind) is kept alive for 3 1/2 years by being fed the Word of God. She was given two great wings of an eagle (outpouring of God's Spirit upon her) and the earth (nature going wild) helping to swallow the flood of persecution against her (see page 1). |
During the 3 1/2 years of the great Christian tribulation (timeframe 4 Matt 13:9, Dan
7:25, 8:24, Rev 12:13, Rev 13:7,15) following the rapture many of those
that now accept Christ are afflicted and killed because they refused to receive the mark
of the beast or worship him so they could buy or sell. When the 5th seal was
opened (Rev 6:9-11) we see the
souls of tribulation martyrs arriving in heaven and they were told to rest for a little
season until the full number of tribulation saints to be killed had been accomplished. In
the meantime they were given white robes to comfort them insuring them they too will
receive a resurrected body to wear them. In Rev 7:9-15 the full number of tribulation martyrs is reached and it is
recorded that they are now wearing their white robes. This is because they have been
resurrected (just like the dead at the rapture) at the end of the
3 1/2 year Christian tribulation completing the church in heaven - the bride of Christ.
The process of the first resurrection which started with Christ's own resurrection has now
been completed, and the church age has come to an end after the 6th seal but before the
7thseal - when the terrible Day of the Lord
begins (see martyrs raised for a full
understanding of these events). |
Matt 24:9 |
Matt 24:7-14 Jesus' own words about the great Christian tribulation period match exactly the
same events of the 6 seals of Revelations (see table above) |
Rev 7:9-15 |
Timeframe 4 the opening of the sixth seal causes the Earth's polar axis to shift and starts a 7 year process ending the old heaven and earth. The judgments of Day of the Lord (timeframe 5) results in the old heaven and earth being cleansed and made upright with water canopy of Gen 1:6-8 restored making a new heaven and earth by Christ's return.

12 And
I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the
sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. |
Acts 2:16-21 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. |
Isaiah 24:20, 21 20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. 21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth Gobal warming and melting of the polar caps that has been going on for years with the added nuclear wars of the second seal (Rev 6:4, Acts 2:19) period cause the polar shift to be very evident as the earth wobbles and reels to and fro like a drunkard (Rev 6:12, Isa 24:20.21). Mighty earthquakes and tidal waves are taking place (Hab 2:7-13). Those combined calamities cause the sun to be turned into darkness and the moon as blood (6th seal Rev 6:12-17) before the terrible Day of the Lord (timeframe 5) but whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21) |
for more detail and scripture see Daniel 11 page 3, Kingdom |
3 And as he sat upon the mount
of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these
things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these
things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom: and there shall be famines, pestilence's and earthquakes, in divers
places
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be
hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one
another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto
all nations; and then shall the end come.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of
Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things
be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these
things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Jesus was asked 2 questions (Matt
24:3) (1) what are
the signs of the end of the age? (2) what are the signs of His coming again? Jesus
answered the signs of the end of the age first because the church age ends before the
signs that lead up to His visible coming to earth (see charts above). Matt 24:4-6 are pre-rapture and cover signs that connect with
the rise of Antichrist to the rapture. The rapture
happens between verse 6 and 7 (see Daniel 7 page 3 - massive
deception for a full study). . Jesus does not mention the rapture in these verses but does deal with it after He
answers the 2 questions (see Matt 24:37-42). Jesus now
mentions in verses 7-14 events that would follow the rapture and match perfectly with Rev 6.
7 For nation shall rise against
nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, pestilence's and
earthquakes, in divers places

When one studies the book of Revelations (see Revelations) the rapture happens
in Revelations 4. The raptured saints watch Christ take the 7 sealed
book in Revelations 5 and open the first 6 seals in Revelations 6. Revelations 6 (6 seals) covers the same
time period as the 3 1/2 Christian tribulation period on earth.
Again, compare in the chart above
Jesus words in Matt 24:7-14 with Rev 6
concerning events happening during the Christian tribulation period on earth with the
effects of the 6 seals being opened in heaven at the same time.
In Matt
24:15-31 Jesus now answers the signs that lead up to his visible
coming. God is now dealing with Israel and the first sign Jesus says to
those living at the time is that Antichrist will set up an image of himself in the Jewish
temple for him to be worshipped as God - that is - the abomination of desolation. This happens when Antichrist invades Israel during the last 7 years
and stops the sacrifices and temple worship and puts an idol of himself to be worshiped as
God (see Daniel 9; Daniel's 70th week and charts
above).
Mt 24:15
15 When ye therefore
shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the
holy place, (who so
readeth, let him understand:)
